Introduction to Photo Gallery
In this lesson you will encounter Microsoft’s newest
and easiest to use Photo program.
There are many others that you may choose to use
instead that are very similar. Adobe Photoshop is a
Professional software package and software comes
with Digital Cameras. Google’s Picasa is another free
software.
Objectives
1. Become familiar with the Photo Gallery Windows
environment.
2. Display and work with Picture folders.
3. Learn to edit, repair, send and delete pictures.
4. Learn how to use a Slideshow presentation.
5. Learn to attach a photo file to an Email message.

How do I get Photo Gallery
1. Free download from Microsoft at
www.download.live.com
2. Click on “Download”.
3. Install the software Photo Gallery and
Movie Maker only.
How do I use Photo Gallery
From Your Digital Camera to your Computer:
1. Set your computer to the Desktop.
2. Attach the camera to the PC with the USB wire.
3. Turn on the Camera and wait for the Action window.
4. Double click the Photo Gallery Icon to import.
Option 1 - Import all New pictures only:
A Type the Name for the desired folder. (May be an existing one).
B Click Import.
C Photo Gallery will open with the imported pictures placed.
Option 2 – Review, Organize and Group to Import pictures:
A Click Next.
B Select (Highlight) the pictures to import.
C Click on the little Folder shown and type the Name for the
desired folder. (May be an existing one). You can type the
same folder name for each group or a different name to place
pictures in a new folder.
D Click Import.
E Photo Gallery will open with the imported pictures to the
Folders chosen.
Finding Your Photo Files –Right Side Pane
Select a Folder and Display the Pictures
1. Libraries, Pictures, My Pictures and Individual
Folders.

Edit Tab: Select a Picture.
1. Double Click on a Photo to open it.
2. < -for previous photo.

1. Rotate left, right, delete or make a copy.

Edit Tab:

Crop a Photo.
Double Click the Photo to open it. Click the arrow down
below Crop Photo to select a proportion.
To specify a 8x10 photo proportion, select it in the
Proportion list. You can then drag the corners of the crop
frame until the photo has the position that you want.
To resize a custom crop frame, drag the corners of the
crop frame. If you have chosen a standard print size, the
crop frame maintains its proportions as it is resized. A
custom crop frame can have any width or height. To
change the photo’s composition, drag the crop frame to
a new position in the photo.
To rotate the crop frame so the photo is cropped
vertically or horizontally, click Rotate Frame.
When finished click Apply.
Edit Tab:
Adjustments.
Fix Red Eye. Click Fix Red Eye. Drag a box around the eye that you want to correct and then release themouse button. Repeat the step for each eye that you want to correct. If you still see red eye, repeat the process until satisfied.
Retouch. Click Retouch. Drag a box around the blemish that you want to remove and then release themouse button.
Straighten, Adjust Color, Exposure and Fine Tune
To save changes to your photo, Close the file.
Create Tab :
Share.
Set as desktop-the current photo.

E-Mail: Setting your Choice of Email
1. If you want to use this feature with Gmail or Yahoo,
you need to do the following:
2. Go to www.affixa.com
3. Click on Download and install the software.
4. Click on Settings.
5. Select-Add and pick G-mail or Yahoo. (Tool Bar must
be active).
6. Now when you select aphoto and click Email on the
tool Bar, your photo will be attached to a Draft Email
ready for you to complete.

Photo Editing Exercise:
Select the “Class Pictures” folder
Cropping Photo(Removing extraneous part of a photo)
1. Double-clicking on the first “Sunrise” photo.
2. Click on “Crop photo” on arrow down.
3. Click on Proportion and Select the 4” X 6” size.
4. Click on the Crop arrow down and click “Apply”.
5. Click “Revert to Original” on far top right to cancel changes.
Retouch a Photo
1. Double click on the “Scene behindthe Senior Center”
photo.
2. Click on Retouch and move arrow to the lower right
side of the center tree. Hold the left button and circle
up and left to form a rectangle around deletion and
release the button. Zoom in will help.
Straighten Photo
1. Double-click on the “Flag” photo.
2. Click on “Straighten Photo” on the right.
3. Change is applied automatically to straighten photo.
4. Click on “Revert to Original” to cancel changes.
Photo Editing Exercise:
Select the “Class Pictures” folder
Creating a Panoramic Photo
1. Hold the CTRL key and select the 3 Pavilion photos.
2. Select the Create Tab and Click on “Panorama” to
combine photos.
3. Click on Crop and Proportion and Select a size to
adjust new photo.
4. Click on the Crop arrow down and click “Apply”.
5. Click “Revert to Original” on far top right to cancel
changes.
Photo Fuse
1. Hold the CTRL key and select the 2 Sunset photos.
2. Select the Create Tab and Click on “Photo Fuse” to
combine photos.
Set Photo as your Desktop Background
1. Click on the “Flag” photo.
2. Click on “Set as Desktop” box to make it your desktop background.
Other Important features of Photo Gallery
E-mailing Photos
Photo Gallery automatically resizes and attaches your photos to
E-mail. Saves them in the “Drafts” section ready to address.
Making Slideshows
Photo Gallery can create a slideshow from a group of photos.
It can be viewed on your computer or made into a “Gift CD”
that can be viewed on another PC or a compatible DVD player
or TV.
Printing Photos
Photo Gallery automatically fits photos to you photo paper size.
More than one picture can be printed on a page.
Exporting Photos
After editing photos, you can export (send) them to other
popular photo processing websites like Wal-Mart, Costco and
many others.
